NEW AGE EDUCATION
How does an adult come into being?
He does not spring into life by a miracle! He is the result of years of
hard work, of patient care, of study and practice. And who labors so
patiently to create a man? It is the child.
The adult is a procreator but the
child is a creator. If the child is raised in a conducive atmosphere
under good conditions he will create a being that is good, healthy and
fine. However, if the child encounters difficulties and obstacles, the
being he creates may be distorted.
As parents and teachers we have to
understand that children are active rather than passive learners. Too
much direct teaching and training from an adult can be an obstacle
rather than a help to a child’s development.
The child has real constructive
energy and unknown powers of development within him. A child’s mind can
be likened to the vast galaxy of planets in the Milky Way. Every new
scientific discovery made in the planetary system has always been there
all the time, but no one recognized its existence until it is discovered
by the latest technology. The same goes to a child. The children’s
constructive energy has existed all the time. Realizing the constructive
forces in the child’s nature will make us see him in a new light.
As parents and educators we have
to realize that we have a great role in the development of young
children. Sometimes as parents or educators we tend to devote more of
our attention to the mistakes that our children make. All of a child’s
great achievements get hidden behind a few small errors! And those
errors are often the result of adult interference and failure to
understand! So, we must change this attitude about errors. “To err is
Human.” We shall never understand the child by focusing on mistakes and
errors. We as parents and educators must see the great achievement, the
miracle. Then only we can understand how we can help, and not hinder,
the work of the child. Our educational system will then be planned to
give this help so that the potential powers of the child at birth may be
developed to the fullest.
The New Age Education must
aim at understanding and helping natural development, not on imparting
information and enforcing morality. This approach is embodied in the
Montessori Method of Education. It is not based on the preconceived
theories of an educator. It is based on scientific methods of
observation and experimentation on the study of young children. The
results were so entirely unexpected, so sensational, that the whole
world was amazed—all ideas about children and the right way to teach
them were turned upside down.
At Young Genius Readers, we
adopt such an approach so as to develop the fullest potential in every
child. It is not the method of teaching that results in great
achievements in a child. Rather, it is observation in the absence of
direct teaching that reveals the nature of the child and his astonishing
potentials.
